HOW TO SEND AN AWM GREETING CARD
Sending a card is easy. Just follow the instructions at each step along the way. After you have completed the card, you will be shown a preview. If you do not like your card, you may edit it and then send it, or just cancel the request. The recipient will receive an e-mail advising where to find their card.

STEP #1: PICK A PICTURE
Please select a picture from the list below using the little Radio Button selector. Just click on one small circle next to a photo. You may only pick one picture per card. If you want to see a full size image of a picture, just click on it. (You might want to do that before filling in any information on this page, just so you do not risk losing your work after returning from viewing the image.)

Refugee Mother and Kids
Mother with four children in tow, walking in a refugee camp in Pakistan's North West Frontier Region. Many women have lost their husbands in Afghanistan and are forced to leave the country since working in Afghanistan is illegal for women under the Taliban laws.
Dirt Wall
A rain storm has highlighted interesting textures in this refugee mud wall. This is a typical entrance to a home in a refugee camp in Pakistan.
Refugee Women
Women in Akora Khattak Refugee Camp wait for their turn to see RAWA's medical team. The burqa garment that they are wearing is required under Taliban law in Afghanistan, but in Pakistan is optional. Many women choose to wear it due to tribal custom and societal and family pressure even outside of Afghanistan.
Plastic City
Also known as the Living Graveyard, Jalozai Refugee Camp in Pakistan is one of the worst places to end up as a refugee. Some 80,000 are attempting to survive there under the worst of conditions; no food, little water, soaring temperatures, and no shelter other than plastic or blankets hung on poles. Jalozai is a place where Pakistan's attitude of not wanting more refugees to enter the country merges with the desperation of the Afghan people to create a place of supreme misery and death.
Refugee Girl in School
Thanks to RAWA's efforts, some of the poorest children in the camps in Pakistan have a chance to learn to read and write as well as to learn some other basic subjects. Children like the one pictured often spend off-school hours collecting garbage to redeem for money.
Smiling Faces
A young girl holds her baby brother up for a photo. She lives in the city of Peshawar in very poor conditions. The baby needs some medical attention for his ear which is malformed. Perhaps it is the girl's hope that by her brother getting photographed, help will be forthcoming some day for him.
A Look of Despair?
I don't know what was on this girl's mind as I took her picture, but her expression is certainly interesting and perhaps the less said the better. She was among many women waiting for medical treatment in Akora Khattak Refugee Camp in Pakistan.
Down With Fundamentalists!
A young woman demonstrates against religious fundamentalism which has gripped Afghanistan and thrust her society and homeland into the medieval dark ages. On the poster behind her is a picture of Meena, founder of RAWA. Meena was martyred in 1987, but her work for women's rights, freedom and democracy is carried out today by many others.
