Parwarashga-e-Watan orphanage in Kabul was established during the Soviet invasion era in the early 80s but has suffered from lack of resources and care over the years and especially recently. RAWA visited the government run orphanage in late 2001 and found children in terrible conditions with a lack of virtually everything. Each child had a horrible story to tell of their stay in the orphange which was under the administration of the Taliban and is currently under the new Afghan government. RAWA determined to bring clothing for the children and in February made a trip from Pakistan with supplies.
AWM provided funding for the clothing which included jackets, socks and shoes for about 1,000 children. RAWA had planned to bring much more aid to these unfortunate children. Unfortunately, a new director was appointed to the orphanage and he has banned RAWA from visiting the orphanage or distributing items to the children due to his political views which are in opposition to RAWA's! A complaint to the education minister in the interim government over this matter availed nothing. Letters from foreigners could prove useful in this case.
